Nothing satisfies hunger quite like a BBQ sandwich and sandwiches are a no-brainer when it comes to convenience.
It turns out more people would rather slather their sandwich with barbecue sauce than any other condiment. BBQ runs the heat spectrum, with flavors to please those craving sweet and bold, tangy Western or Spicy 911. According to SmartBlogs, barbecue was the most popular “mega trend” with 64% of consumers interested in BBQ sandwiches.
Plus, what’s more American than BBQ? Nation’s Restaurant News discusses how Wendy’s sprung on the opportunity to create a flavorful twist on the election campaign. Seeking to promote its new BBQ pulled pork option, the quick service chain set out to make barbecue the “National Dish of America.” Wendy’s is not the only QSR to take notice of this high-rising trend, McDonald’s periodically menus the famous “McRib” each year since the sandwich has a following among BBQ fans.
Topping QSR’s One’s To Watch for March 2015 is fast-casual Billy Sims BBQ. Sims, the former Heisman-winning University of Oklahoma running-back turned pro-baller, says the chain’s most popular sandwich is the Heisman, which features “pulled pork or beef brisket with a slice of bologna and a hot link on a bun.”
